  • April 6, 2024
Thank you to all who came out to support our Spring IGP trial on April 6th. We had a very supportive group of competitors and spectators. Judge Deb even commented on the comradery and sportsmanship during the trial. Friday evening surprised us with a late Spring snow storm blanketing everything with about an inch of snow. Because it was late in the day there was a good deal remining Saturday morning giving me a challenge to de-ice my van to pick up our Judge on time. Even so, tracking conditions were lovely with recent plowing and moist ground but a chilly 34 degrees with a light breeze. Robert Gager laid the IGP2 and STp2 tracks while Bella Yuan laid the IGP3 tracks. Thank you both for doing a great job.

We receive so many compliments from our judge, competitors and spectators. I cannot express enough my thanks for our club members and competitors who kept the trial running like a well-oiled machine.

Mary took the helm as our Trial Secretary and my right-hand woman. Andria and Shelby (both competing) came early to set up. Robin headed the “group” with Ronnie, Andria, Shelby, Bella and Mary rotating in with Robert doing the gunfire for the obedience dogs. Spectators and other competitors chipped in to help move equipment, man the gate and help set up lunch. I am forever grateful for all of your participation.

Judge Deb Krsnich provided thorough, informative and supportive pre-trial handler meetings, fair and consistent judging and enlightening critiques and post-trial debriefings. She was a joy to work with.

Josh Huck took the field after obedience and provided safe and consistent helper work for a variety of breeds. As always, it was great to have him out to work the dogs.

Congratulations to those who were successful and to those who did not meet their goal may your next attempt be successful.

  • October 21, 2023 IGP Trial
WHWDC held our annual Fall IGP trial Saturday October 21st. Thank you to Judge Robert Johantgen for being club and competitor friendly and providing valuable information during his critiques. To Josh Huck for his highway straight tracks and safe and consistent helper work on such a hot day. Thank you to everyone who volunteered (demo dog, group, gun fire, set up, tear down, etc.), many who were also competing. It's difficult enough to trial much less going in different directions on trial day. To Mary who took on the job of Trial Secretary for the first time with detail and accuracy, I thank you. And a big thank you to a great group of competitors for supporting our trial and being great sportsmen even when they had an off day. There is always opportunity to grow and learn from every trial.

Be proud that you stepped onto the trial field. As we know the outcome is not always guaranteed and there were a few WTH moments. “Do not be embarrassed by your failures, learn from them and start again.” —Richard Branson.
I wanted to thank everyone who chipped in to help especially my A-Team, Robin (Trial Secretary), Andria, Carly and Bella for everything you do to keep the trial running smoothly. Thank you to Larry for driving out to do gunfire. To Robert for countless hours spent prepping the tracking field that had not been tilled in 20 years, plotting the field and laying the IGP 3 track. A final thank you to Anne Kent for donating a used disk harrow that made tilling the tracking field a much easier tack.
Thank you again for your camaraderie and joy of the sport. Until next time.

  • On March 20, 2021, the Spring Equinox, 13 competitors stepped up to test their months/years of hard work. We were honored to have six BH competitors stepping onto the trial field for the very first time and Tutut, Yudi and Panther who drove from Northern California to attend. Mother Nature presented us with a lovely, calm and cool morning for tracking but blustery and cold conditions for obedience and protection. The wind was strong enough to blow the plastic flags off the long down markers but competitors took it in stride. WHWDC would like to thank all of those who supported the trial, cooperated with Covid protocols and jumped in to help while club members were competing. My hats off to the competitors and their support teams. Your sportsmanship and comradery were commendable even when things didn’t go as expected.

Thank you to Judge Nathaniel Roque for his fair and consistent judging, competitor friendliness and thorough, informational critiques. A huge shout-out to Anne Kent and Canyon K9 Club for providing tracking fields and Anne’s countless hours spent prepping those fields. Kudos to Robert Gager for laying and walking the IGP3 track after his dog took his knee out the night prior and to Tyler Pluss for his safe and consistent helper work. Last but not least thank you to our club members Robin and husband Larry, Andria, Bella, Carly and Robert who worked tirelessly before, during and after the trial to ensure everything ran smoothly. You guys are my A team.

  • October 31, 2020 WHWDC IGP Trial ~ Judge Robert Johantgen
Saturday October 31st, paired with Halloween and a full moon 11 dog and handler teams stepped onto the tracking and trial fields. We enjoyed great weather and a great group of competitors a different trial environment along with some “what the heck” moments. WHWDC would like to thank all of those who helped us hold a safe event by following Covid protocols.  I am forever grateful for competitors and support teams who supported the trial during these challenging times and for their sportsmanship and humor when things didn’t exactly go as planned.

Of course, we could not hold successful trials without our cast of officials and volunteers dedicated to the sport and our club.  A big shout out to Andria Witmer for volunteering to be our Trial Secretary. She did a great job for her first assignment, stood in for the group, even brought a neutral dog for the BH traffic portion. Thank you to our Judge Robert Johantgen for his always fair and consistent judging, thorough and helpful critiques and competitor friendliness. Hats off to Robert Gager for plotting and laying tracks in difficult conditions and to David Pletka for doing a great job working dogs safely and accurately for his first trial as a helper. Looking forward to seeing him on the trial field in the future. As always to my right-hand gal, Robin. Thank you for taking charge for set up, tear down and being group chairwoman. To Bella and Hugo thank you for your help with set up, group and tear down and Larry for doing gunfire. We had a nicely organize trial with 7 entries, 6 being HOT with 5 entries passing. • 3.17.2012 WHWDC Trial with Andrea Duggan 10 entries
Call it Murphy's Law or blame it on the Leprechauns but after 3 trials with decent weather our luck ran out today.  The trial started with extreme winds, dodging vehicle size tumbleweeds on the way back from tracking, blowing dirt and sand, transitioned to blowing mud then wind and heavy rain mixed with sleet. We had 10 entries with 8 passing. 3-BH, 2-TR1, 2-OB1 1-OB2, 1-IPO1 and 1-IPO3. Even though the competitors had the choice of stopping the trial they chose to brave the elements and continue. I call that competitive spirit, some people call it plain crazy :-)
Congratulations to those who achieved titles and for those who did not but put in a valiant effort.

Special thanks to Andrea Duggan for enduring the torture of the High Desert with an award winning attitude (wearing goggles during OB so she could see) and to club members as each and every one of them came out to help out. A high five to the competitors for being so flexible as we rearranged running orders. Also, a BIG thank you to Susan H for being first time trial secretary under such horrible conditions. Last but not least Anne Kent we salute your for hydroplaning your way to the trial to work Rocky. You guys ROCK!
